Kathmandu, Sept 26: Japan’s ambassador to Nepal, Maeda Toru, today called on Minister for Energy, Resources and Irrigation and the Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport as well as the Minister for Urban Development, Kulman Ghising. During the meeting took place at the Singha Durbar-based Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, the Japanese ambassador wished for a successful term of Minister Ghising.
The two exchanged views on areas of Japan’s bilateral assistance to Nepal in various forms such as grants, loans, technical support and on the implementation of projects supported by the government of Japan that remains as a major and reliable development partner of Nepal for Nepal’s socio-economic development.
Similarly, they touched on various topics including additional support needed for the-construction Nagdhunga Tunnel, reconstruction of the BP Highway, additional support for the 140-megawatt Tanahu Hydropower Project, improvement of Koteshwor Chowk, and progress of projects related to electricity transmission and distribution system upgrades.
Highlighting Japan’s significant contribution to Nepal’s development priority sectors, Minister Ghising expected Japan’s support in potential areas such as the 670-megawatt Dudhkoshi and the 1,200-megawatt Budhigandaki reservoir hydropower projects of strategic importance as well as infrastructure development projects and the preparation of an integrated master plan for the long-term (100-year) urban management of the Kathmandu Valley.
During the meeting, the ambassador said the Government of Japan is ready to support large-scale projects of strategic importance in Nepal.
