Kathmandu, Sept 26: Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Union to Nepal, Veronique Lorenzo, has today paid a courtesy call on Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Kulman Ghising, who also looks after the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Tranasport, and the Ministry of Urban Development.
In the meeting held at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation at Singha Durbar, Ambassador Lorenzo congratulated Minister Ghising on behalf of the European Union and wished him a successful tenure, according to Minister Ghising’s secretariat.
On the occasion, discussions were held on Nepal’s energy sector, projects of strategic importance and transformative reservoir hydropower projects, green energy, energy security and efficiency, and additional assistance in the energy sector, among other topics.
Minister Ghising stated that although the priorities of the government formed after the Gen-Z demonstration are to rebuild physical structures damaged during the protests, its focus was also on good governance, advancing development projects, maintaining inter-ministerial coordination and further ensuring the electricity market through policy and legal reforms.
He thanked the EU for its support to Nepal’s development and urged additional support in mobilizing the required money for the 670-Megawatt Dudhkoshi reservoir project and for improving the transmission and distribution system of this project which he said is a priority project. Ambassador Lorenzo said that the EU is always ready to extend additional support and collaboration in Nepal’s energy sector.
