Kathmandu, April 29 — The U.S. Embassy in Nepal today joined Millennium Challenge Account Nepal and the Government of Nepal for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Dhanakhola–Lamahi Road Rehabilitation Works under the MCC Nepal Compact, marking a major milestone in the implementation of the project.

The event highlights the strength of the U.S.–Nepal partnership and renewed progress in one of Nepal’s most significant infrastructure development efforts. The broader Compact represents a joint investment of USD 747 million, including USD 550 million from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and USD 197 million from the Government of Nepal.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Scott Urbom said the project represents far more than a single investment, describing it as a symbol of the strong bilateral relationship and shared commitment between the two countries.

“This project represents much more than a single investment. It is a milestone that reflects the strength of our bilateral relationship and our shared commitment to delivering tangible results for the people of Nepal and American businesses working here through the Compact,” he said.
Through its road maintenance and electricity transmission projects, the MCC Compact is expected to strengthen Nepal’s road network, reduce transportation costs, improve electricity reliability, and support long-term economic growth as well as cross-border power trade.
