Kathmandu, May 23: A ‘luggage tag’ system will be implemented on long-distance public transport vehicles departing from the Kathmandu Valley from May 29.
This system is being introduced to ensure the safety of passengers’ belongings, eliminate the loss or exchange of bags, and further manage public transport.
A formal agreement, to this effect, was signed between the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office and the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs on Friday.
The agreement was signed by Navaraj Adhikari, Chief of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office and Senior Superintendent of Police, and Saroj Sitaula, President of the Federation.
According to the agreement, tagging of passengers’ luggage will be done from May 29 onwards. Only by matching the luggage tag number provided to passengers with the number on the bus will the luggage be delivered to the destination., it is stated.
This is believed to play an important role in keeping passengers’ belongings safe.
SSP Navaraj Adhikari informed RSS that such a system is necessary to control the increasing luggage theft, bag losses, and illegal activities in the public transport sector.
Likewise, Federation President Saroj Sitoula informed that efforts are being made to introduce a modern management system in public bus services, similar to air travel.
According to him, keeping passengers’ luggage safe has been a long-standing challenge. He said, ‘Just like on planes, a luggage tag system will now be implemented on buses. This will eliminate the problem of bags being swapped, lost, or taken by the wrong person. It will create an environment where passengers can travel with peace of mind.’
