Kathmandu, June 13: The Embassy of Peru and the Consulate of Peru in Kathmandu jointly hosted a reception on Friday evening to celebrate Peru’s National Day and commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Peru and Nepal.
The reception was hosted by Javier Paulinich, Ambassador of Peru to India and Nepal, and Sumit Kumar Agarwal, Consul of Peru in Kathmandu.
Distinguished guests comprising senior government officials, diplomats, honorary consuls, members of the business community, and media representatives attended the reception.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Paulinich highlighted the longstanding friendship between Peru and Nepal, noting that the two countries share common characteristics as mountainous nations shaped by the Andes and the Himalayas.
“This year holds special significance for Peru and Nepal as we proudly commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries,” he said.
“Over the past five decades, our relationship has been characterized by friendship, mutual respect, and cordial cooperation.”
The ambassador reaffirmed Peru’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation in political, economic, academic, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges.
He identified several promising areas for future collaboration, including high-altitude agriculture, water resource management, disaster risk reduction, mountain and rural tourism, renewable energy, and sustainable development initiatives.
Noting the similarities between the Andes and the Himalayas, Ambassador Paulinich said both countries have learned to harness opportunities and address challenges associated with mountainous environments, creating a strong basis for enhanced cooperation.
Consul Agarwal reaffirmed his commitment to promoting stronger bilateral relations.
“This year marks the historic 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Peru. We celebrate half a century of friendship and look forward to reaching new heights in our bilateral ties and building a prosperous future for both countries,” he said.
Nepal and Peru established diplomatic relations in 1976 and have since maintained cordial ties based on mutual respect and cooperation.
As both countries celebrate the golden jubilee of diplomatic relations, officials expressed confidence that bilateral cooperation would continue to expand in the years ahead.
The evening concluded with a toast to the enduring friendship between Nepal and Peru, with Ambassador Paulinich expressing the hope that relations between the two countries would continue to flourish and reach new heights in the future.
