Kathmandu, June 13: The government has advanced a plan to keep environment clean by lowering air pollution. ‘The Nepal Clean Air and Prosperity Project (NCAP)’ is being readied for implementation from the upcoming fiscal year 2083/084.

A project amounting to Rs 8.71 billion (57 million US dollars) is being designed in Nepal to control air pollution, promote industrial green transformation, and encourage clean air.

The project has found a path to implementation after the World Bank approved a concessional loan of 52 million US dollars and a grant of 5 million US dollars.
Director General of the Department of Environment, Gyanraj Subedi, expressed confidence that the NCAP will bring qualitative changes to the country’s air quality management system.

According to him, the project is expected to significantly reduce industrial pollution as it especially helps the industrial sector transition to clean energy.
“We are trying to make the monitoring system more effective. As industries switch to clean energy, pollution levels will decrease within the next five years”, he shared.
