NA Chair Dahal reminds all to be responsible to abide by values of human rights

Patan (Lalitpur), Dec 8: Chairperson of the National Assembly, Narayan Prasad Dahal, has said it was the responsibility of each citizen to abide by the human rights values. Opening the 16th Human Rights National Magna Meet 2081 BS kicked off in Jawalakhel of Lalitpur on the occasion of the 76th International Human Rights Day on Sunday, the NA Chair said the State should guarantee the implementation of human rights and each citizen should respect it.

The matter about the guarantee of human rights is meant for standing for the cause of the marginalized and excluded communities, he said, urging the State and its each organ to deliver being committed to the protection of the rights of these communities.

Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission, Tapa Bahadur Magar, said the NHRC is working for the rights of the marginalized communities. “The NRHC recommendations to the government in regard to the human rights have been inadequately implemented.”

Likewise, Chairperson of the National Women Commission, Kamala Parajuli, said the cases of violation of human rights from the non-state side are noticeable and the State should take stern action to prevent it.
Ram Bahadur Thapa Magar, Chairperson of the Indigenous Nationalities Commission, called on the entire authorities concerned to implement special provisions on human rights enshrined by our Constitution.

National Dalit Commission Chair Devraj Bishwakarma and Tharu Commission Chair Bishnu Prasad Chaudhary said the elimination of keeping bonded labour such as Harwa-Charwa and Kamaiya are still in practices as the State has failed to faciliate for addressing their basic needs.

On the occasion, NA Member Bhuwan Sunar, FHI 360 Nepal Director Bhagawan Shrestha, NGO Federation Vice Chair Bhawana Bhatta , Magna Meet 2081 co-coordinator Deepak Soni were univocal in improving the human rights of the marginalized communities.

Magna Meet coordinator Charan Prasai said the objective of the event is to uniting human rights activists.
On the occasion, litterateur and social worker Durga Ghimire was honoured. Likewise, Shanta Laxmi Shrestha Women Human Rights Award carrying a purse of Rs 30,000 was presented to Kismati Devi Ram.
